Bophelo Medical Stokvel – Terms & Conditions
These Terms & Conditions govern membership and participation in Bophelo Medical Stokvel (“the Stokvel”). By applying for and maintaining membership, you agree to be bound by these rules.
1. Membership
1.1 Membership is open to all South African residents over the age of 18.
1.2 Each member must complete and sign the official Membership Application Form.
1.3 Members must provide accurate and truthful personal information at all times.
1.4 Membership is individual and non-transferable.
2. Contributions
2.1 Each member must contribute R250 per month.
2.2 Contributions are payable on or before the 5th of each month.
2.3 Non-payment of contributions for two consecutive months may result in suspension or termination of membership.
2.4 Contributions are non-refundable.
3. Benefits
3.1 The Stokvel covers the following medical expenses only:
General Practitioner (GP) consultations.
Prescription medicines (as prescribed by a GP).
3.2 The Stokvel does not cover:
Hospitalisation or specialist fees.
Dental or optical care.
Over-the-counter medication without a prescription.
Chronic disease management (unless specifically approved).
3.3 Payments will be made directly to service providers (GPs or pharmacies) or reimbursed to members where applicable.
4. Use of Funds
4.1 All member contributions are collected and managed by the appointed administrator, Boost Africa (Pty) Ltd.
4.2 The administrator is responsible for:
Monthly collection of contributions.
Marketing and sales of the stokvel.
General administration and record keeping of the stokvel’s business affairs.
4.3 Boost Africa (Pty) Ltd is entitled to a monthly commission of 30% from all collections as compensation for administration, marketing, and operational services.
4.4 The remaining funds (after deduction of administrative commission) will be used exclusively for the payment of members’ eligible medical claims.
4.5 All use of funds will be reported transparently to members during general meetings or upon request.
5. Claims Process
5.1 Members must submit valid proof of consultation or prescription.
5.2 Claims must be submitted within 30 days of treatment.
5.3 The Stokvel reserves the right to verify the authenticity of all claims.
5.4 Fraudulent claims will lead to immediate termination of membership.
6. Governance & Decision-Making
6.1 The Stokvel is governed by its members through a committee.
6.2 Decisions regarding operations, benefits, and changes to these Terms & Conditions will be made collectively at general meetings.
6.3 Members will be notified of any changes to contributions, benefits, or administrative arrangements at least 30 days in advance.
7. Code of Conduct
7.1 Members must uphold the values of Trust, Health, and Happiness.
7.2 Disrespectful or fraudulent behavior will not be tolerated.
7.3 Members must respect the confidentiality of other members’ information.
8. Termination of Membership
8.1 A member may resign by giving one month’s written notice.
8.2 Membership may be terminated for:
Non-payment of contributions.
Submitting fraudulent claims.
Breach of these Terms & Conditions.
9. Liability
9.1 The Stokvel operates on a community savings model and is not a registered medical aid scheme.
9.2 The Stokvel cannot guarantee unlimited medical cover; benefits are subject to available funds and contributions.
9.3 The Stokvel is not liable for uncovered medical expenses, hospital bills, or specialist treatment.
10. Dispute Resolution
10.1 Any disputes will be referred to the Stokvel Committee for resolution.
10.2 If unresolved, disputes may be referred to an external mediator agreed upon by both parties.
10.3 The decision of the committee or mediator will be final.
11. Amendments
11.1 The Stokvel reserves the right to amend these Terms & Conditions from time to time.
11.2 Members will be given at least 30 days’ notice of any amendments.
